Types of Business Licenses

• Basic Business License
  Almost all businesses (retail stores, wholesale companies, other business types) need a basic business license.
• Trader’s License
  You need a trader’s license if you buy goods from other businesses and sell those goods to customers.
• Occupational or Professional Licenses
  You or your employees may need special licenses from state or local governments if you work in certain fields.

Find the Licenses and Permits You Need

Check with both state and local authorities to find out which licenses or permits your business needs.

• State Licenses
  Use the Maryland Licensing OneStop Portal to apply for state licenses. These may include licenses for mechanics, real estate, home inspections, or insurance.
• Local Licenses
